Digital Producer is one of those essential roles that companies who have entered digital without understanding digital won’t have. Digital is not a thin sheen on top of technology its fundamentally different, different thinking and a different trajectory.
A digital producer is a unique role as it’s essentially a digital apprenticeship, people come at it from lots of directions, they are rarely graduates, they have exceptional people and communication skills, often having a history in hospitality or retail. Today they are digital natives and are the market for most digital products and services.
Digital producers do all the administration, relationship management and support for people whose time is too valuable to be wasted on sorting our WebEx or travel or any of the other mundane but business critical things. These apprenticeships usually last around two years, by that point it should be clear what their skills are. The next roles from digital producer are project manager, client relationship manager, business development or if they studied while working a design or development specialism.
It’s a good gauge of your digital partner just how many digital producers they have and if you as a client have ever interacted with one.
